From China with Love
Like something from a James Bond film or the recently released Bourne Ultimatum, the Chinese government has announced that they intend to use cutting-edge satellite tracking systems to keep Olympic food supplies contaminant free. According to Wang Wei, executive vice president of the Beijing Olympic Committee, “The whole process will be monitored from the start of production through transportation to the end users,”
Although not entirely unwarranted, especially with the recent spate of food contamination stories, the plan raises many questions. Will it cause the price of food to increase even more? How exactly will they track every truckload of food? And who will track all the activity? I guess we’ll never know the answer. But the important thing is that the Chinese government is taking action in fighting substandard food.
