The East Fourth Ring Scene: The One

Who would have thought that Beijing’s most stylish new live music venue would turn up hiding behind a bus station on East Fourth Ring? Well, whoever it was, was right.

Founded by veterans of Beijing’s live music and design scenes, The One, hidden behind 718 Bus Station 2km from Sihui East, rivals the likes of The Star Live and Mao Livehouse with its sound system. It also boasts a swish, modern layout and feels less smoky than some of the other live houses around town.

Beer starts at RMB 25 for a Tsingdao, cocktails are RMB 40-55 and a selection of prestigious French red wines on offer will only set you back RMB 3500-4000 per bottle, a small price to pay, really, to enjoy the rarely possible trio of Pan-Fried Beef Tenderlion with Tiger Prawn (RMB 88) and Chateau Lafite with your live Chinese rock. There’s huge potential in this place, getting some good bands in would be a nice start.
