Quick Link: Cycling Blithely in the Face of Death
We all have stories of nearly being run down while crossing a Beijing street, or cut off by a truck while on our bicycle, or almost pushed under a subway carriage by overly eager fellow passengers. But how many of us can maintain the spectacularly blase attitude of the tricycle rider captured in this video, blithely sailing over a Beijing intersection as a two-car one-bus pile-up plays out around him?
The news report also features footage of a pedestrian neatly avoiding being rundown by a car and a bus, and a man dodging two oncoming trains, though ChinaHush questions the authenticity of the last clip.

Are they "totally self involved" or completely oblivious?

Just goes to show how bad everyone is at driving, walking or cycling in Beijing.
People really need to start taking note of there surroundings instead of being totally self involved. Start reading signs like stand on the RIGHT, WAIT for passengers to exit before entering, do NOT cross etc..
