It’s Great! It’s Green! It’s the Great Green Initiative Launch!

A quick note from our friends at Greening the Beige – this Sunday (October 10) is the Beijing Climate Party to launch the “Great Green Initiative,” grandly described as “the largest youth-led environmental campaign in China’s history.” The good news is the organizers have extended the registration date for the Great Green Race to today (October 8), so readers still have a chance to participate.

The race will start at 10am, and will involve teams of up to five people. Each team will take a different route starting from the Landgent Center directly above the northeast exit of Shuangjing Subway Station. The team that collects the most waste before crossing the finish line at midday will be declared the winner. Participants will be issued a bag and gloves provided by the organizers. As well as prizes for the winners, all participants will be provided with a free lunch. For further details or to register, please email race@greatgreen.org by the end of today (Friday, October 8). Participation in the race is free.

According to the Greening the Beige website, “The Great Green Initiative campaign is a collaboration of ten prominent youth organizations with shared ambitions: to create green youth culture in China and spur its sustainable development. The campaign seeks to engage China's youth in finding creative and practical solutions for environmental and climate issues, and empower them with the knowledge that they have the ability to do so.”

As well as the Great Green Race, the Green Initiative launch on Sunday will involve talks and musical performances. See here for the day’s full program.
