Live Jazz & An Inventive Menu: Colibri Cafe Opens in Sanlitun Village North
The sharp notes of live jazz can be enjoyed weekend afternoons at the outdoor tables of this mod café tucked in the subterranean outdoor square of the still lonely Village North.
Hoping to ride on Beijing’s recent cupcake trend, Colibri has set up a glass room where customers can view the pastries being decorated. Cupcake options include a pleasing green tea and chocolate ganache (RMB 23).
A short but inventive menu also offers sandwiches and salads. Simple twists on classics, like the tomato chutney, mozzarella, and basil panini are enjoyable and quick (RMB 38). The Peking duck wrap (RMB 48) dripped with excess grease, but the combination of duck with sweet sauce, cucumber, and pesto was a fun play on a Beijing favorite. And the roasted cauliflower salad (RMB 48) was a flavor explosion – the vegetable works great with the quality bacon, grilled radicchio, fresh grapes and quail eggs. Come for the cupcakes, stay for a light lunch.
Standout dish: Cauliflower salad
Also try: Panino Teca, CC Sweets
