All the Gori Details: A New Gourmet Cafeteria in the CBD

Named for a knuckle-walking primate, this gourmet wine bar/cafeteria marks the latest stage of evolution for the team behind Kitchen Igosso and Pekotan bakery. Gori combines central elements of both: the excellent bread and a wall of wine from Pekotan complement the expertly made Japanese-style Italian cuisine of Igosso.

But these are just the basics at Gori, which offers a veritable smorgasbord of quality international eats. Two walls of windows, stretching from floor to high ceiling, create a bright, open and casual executive-canteen environment. The menu provides healthful and flavorful business lunches of pastas, rice dishes, soups, salads and sandwiches (all RMB 48-98 between 11.30am-2pm), as well as a “for wine” selection of dishes geared towards the after-work crowd.

The cuisine draws from all over the culinary map, including pho, laksa, hot dogs, nasi goreng, risotto, chicken rendang, Thai curries and an entire page of paellas (RMB 98-178).

Don’t bet against innovative offerings such as dandan mian with organic udon noodles (RMB 48) or penne with Thai green curry (RMB 58). This crew has the expertise to excel with such tantalizing fusion dishes. Case in point – the teriyaki pork sandwich (RMB 58) features tender slices that are expertly saturated with sweet saucy flavors, while the rustic bread is testament to the fact that the owners run one of Beijing’s best bakeries.

Factoring in the fresh juices, coffees, cocktails, draft beers, Wi-Fi, and friendly, professional service, Gori should become a favorite for discerning primates of all walks of life.
