The Pavillion's New Look ... and Sound

It’s not a new name, but The Pavillion has effectively resurfaced as a completely new venue. No huge surprises with the drinks – Tsingtao is RMB 35, Stella is RMB 45, and there are plenty of bottled beers – but admirers of The Pavillion’s former cozy British pub feel are in for a surprise.

The owners have whitewashed the place from top to bottom, with only the side rooms featuring traces of the past. The appearance of multiple flat-screen TVs should reassure regulars of the bar’s sport-viewing credentials, with the Rugby World Cup set to be a focal point of The Pavillion’s 2011 plans.

Meanwhile, the high-spec sound system and tight house band Solidaz, who play from 10pm Monday to Saturday, inject some fresh appeal. They can even play “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Good for: Crowd-pleasing live music
