Summer Buys: Color Blocking
With the first timid streaks of sunshine comes a powerful shift in aesthetics. Suddenly, our dressing decisions are no longer constrained by the cold.
The inconspicuous dark outerwear that hugged our bodies all winter is traded for hyper hues. We can afford variety in warmer weather – tank tops and shorts cost far less than chunky sweaters and jackets.
Happily, this year’s trends appear to be aligning with our mood (and our bank accounts). The industry is raving about “color blocking”: mixing two or more blocks of color in either a single article of clothing or an entire ensemble.
For a pleasantly jarring effect, pair together unexpected shades. A monochromatic outfit can be livened up with heels sporting straps in ocher, emerald and royal blue, a fuchsia blazer matched with a golden tank and black pants.
Whatever your interpretation, make sure to incorporate at least one muted tone. You need some balance when you’re walking the rainbow.
