Get Freaky for Hibiki: Modern Japanese in the CBD

The star of the menu here is the scallop grilled with butter sauce (RMB 90) – meaty and fresh, smooth and scrumptious. “Chocolate burger meat” (RMB 45) may sound like a dessert al carne; actually, these are creative croquettes, stuffed with unsweetened dark chocolate sauce.

The charcoal-roasted Australian beef (RMB 120) comes paired with four kinds of flavored salt: green tea, black pepper, purple basil and pomelo peel. The roasted miso cod (RMB 78) would get full marks but for the fish bones. And the real bargain is the snapper soup (RMB 20), milky and comforting, imbued with pleasant sweetness from mirin, the Japanese sweet cooking wine. To finish the meal, try the wasabi ice cream (RMB 15), so pungent that you might want to order it first next time, the better to use it as the dipping sauce for sashimi.
