Weekend Live Music Roundup: Jojo Mayer, Residence A, Zhao Laoda

There’re so many anniversaries this weekend, but let's focus on other good acts first. Starting with tonight, New York based drum legend Jojo Mayer and his band Nerve drops by Yugong Yishan. Have a look at some of the videos; you know that it would be awesome to see him live. It's not the only option offered tonight. Saxophonist Li Tieqiao, founder of the only Avant-garde Music Festival in Beijing brings his Sheng Dong Ji Xi session to the hutongs. This time, he invited jazz trio Vasko Atanasovski VATT from east Europe to make it more relaxing.

Still tonight, MAO Livehouse is starting a new series of shows that introduces more promising young rockers to the scene; the first lineup includes Los Crasher and Residence A. The latter will have another gig on Saturday over at Wudaokou. Go see them if you haven't yet, don't miss out. Some of you probably don't want to miss Zhao Laoda (Zhao Yiran)'s session at Jiang Hu with Li Dong on the same night. That guy makes everyone want to bow down to him after seeing him play.

You will be in good time to catch either of these shows after the Beijinger's 10 Anniversary Party, as celebration and having fun is the soul of the party, we found the perfect combination on the live music side: Ricky Sixx's cover band Flaming Heat (炎) will bring some English hit songs from the past decade and the laowais from Dude will cover Chinese pop hits in their hysterical punk style. See you there!
