Black Rabbit Festival Tugged But JUE Needs You
While we were still reeling from the blow of losing the Fun Music Festival in Fangshan later this month (though the reasons are wholly understandable), we were clattered to the canvas by the news that Black Rabbit Festival 2012 has also been pulled.
Organizers Split Works have said that they're cancelling the 2012 edition of the popular festival, as they would struggle with "continuing limitations to [their] festival policy" which aims to offer the best possible experience for festival-goers.
It's all very sad, but not really shocking given that this is a particularly sensitive political year here in the Middle Kingdom.
Not wanting us to dwell too much on the disappointment, Split Works have launched preparations for the 2013 JUE Festival. They want your help deciding what acts will perform during next March's edition. Their notice in full:
"Hey, old and new friends of Split Works! This Monday we just released the sad news of cancelling this year’s Black Rabbit festival. We know this is a blow to everyone who’s been eagerly expecting the festival, including our own team. But life goes on, we need to move forward, right?
Here’s something to look forward to: JUE 2013 is coming up soon!
We’re putting out a call for your brilliant ideas! JUE stays true to the principles of being open sourced, all encompassing, inclusive and fun – and we want your participation.
If you have any ideas for music shows, art projects, events and even volunteer plans, please share them with us. Our email address is juefestival@spli-t.com. You can also leave us messages on our Weibo and Facebook pages."
To help get you in the mood, here's a summary video of the 2012 JUE Festival. Maybe it'll spark inspiration for who you might want to see here next year.
Now go bombard Split Works with ideas of who you want to see in Beijing next March.
