Art Attack: Northern Girls, Uruguayan Film and the Messiah
In arts news this week, Northern Girls by Sheng Keyi has just has been long-listed for the Man Asian Literary Prize 2012. The book is being hailed as a genuine portrayal of life in China. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Instituto Cervantes began their film series, "Latin America Shoots." They'll be screening gems from Uruguay until December 30. Interesting. And the British Film week at BC Moma is well under way. We recommend going to see Wuthering Heights on Monday night.
In performances this weekend, things get cheery and jeery. On Friday, a Christmas comedy starring Snow White debuts at the British School of Beijing. In traditional British pantomime fashion, the crowd will be encouraged to cheer and boo at the characters. Sounds like a hoot.
On Saturday and Sunday, the TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas is being performed live at The Bookworm. We are so stoked about this that we even got an interview with Charlie himself. Hope you got tickets – they're selling fast.
On Sunday night, Handel's Messiah will be performed at the International School of Beijing. Buses to the performance will be running from the Kempinski Hotel.
If Christmas isn't your thing (or not your only thing), you'll be happy to know Capital M has offered their space to Beijing Creatives on Saturday. We're expecting an impressive expo of photography and design. Guest speakers from Three Shadows Gallery, Nuandao.com, and Agence France-Presse have also been invited. Sounds like the place to be.
Luma Lu's got a great midweek comedy in store for you. They will be screening National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Wednesday night. Enjoy!
