Detonate: Street Style Blows Up in Gulou
This street-style parlor is the go-to shop for designer garb with considered detailing and graffiti-inspired prints and dyes. With exclusive brands such as Supreme, Ten Deep, Mishka and Fuct, it’s well worth revisiting as they replenish their stock weekly. Situated upstairs in a compact floor space in the Gulou area, the hi-vis colors of the walls and clothes might be a match for your hyperactive style palette.
Their Mishka jackets and coats cost RMB 1,680-1,860, and their uber-popular Japanese-made selvedge denim jeans are RMB 1,180. The racks also include hats, T-shirts, shoes and a small but distinctive range of women’s wear. The latter is worth checking out if you’re into striking collage prints and bold cocktail dresses. You’d definitely not be unnoticed.
Detonate could cultivate a loyal following as one of the few places to stock such uniquely New York styles. My only wish is that they’d expand their selection of brands, but regardless, the streets of Beijing definitely are in need of such cultish devotion.
