Talking Pints: Super Bowl, Green Cap and the Return of Yen
The main event this weekend is Super Bowl 47. Have you worked out where you'll be watching yet? It'll mean an early rise, and probably pulling a sickie, but those with the requisite fortitude will be rewarded handsomely for their trouble. Check out our list of places offering special deals for early morning gridiron fanatics. And the game is normally quite good too.
Pat Walsh is leaving The Green Cap in Shunyi. Pat had built the bar into a firm favorite with the Shunyi set, but is stepping aside and moving on to pastures new. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor. It's a familiar face taking over at The Green Cap as fellow Irishman Glenn Phelan steps into the breach hoping to keep the bar "average at best".
Brussels have dropped us a message to say that they will be open throughout Spring Festival as usual, but will be a little understaffed as some of their team head home for the festivities. They will also will be holding a Chinese New Year party on Feburary 9. Slow Boat Brewery Taproom will remain open as usual throughout the holiday, while Cu Ju will close on February 9 and 10.
Details of Yen White have been announced. Mark March 28 in your planner, and be at UCCA in 798 Art District from 9pm for consistently one of the best yearly parties. DJs Mickey Zhang, Dio, Usami & Patrick Yu, Ouyang, Donald Summerand Diva will be providing the sounds, and a ticket will set the early birds back just RMB 70, RMB 150 on the door.
Shanghai’s Boxing Cat Brewery and Beijing’s very own Great Leap Brewery have been selected by the Japan Craft Beer Association to represent China at the upcoming Asia Beer Cup 2013. The competition takes place on March 30 in Tokyo. Best of luck to Great Leap.
In Shuangjing, Main Street is giving away RMB 3 Buffalo wings all weekend. As well as that they're offering buy-two-get-your-third-free on all draft beers including their five Slowboat tipples. And if that wasn't reason enough to head south this weekend, Plan B have told us their giant projector screen is ready to go in the new games room and they're planning to screen all the rugby this weekend as the Six Nations Championship kicks off.
