Talking Entertainment: Your Weekend Guide to the Arts
The long convoluted wait is over. Iron Man 3 started its run in China this week. Even though the country is getting a special cut of the film, Shanghaiist reported yesterday that Chinese netizens have few good words for the action flick, especially the scenes shot just for them.
It’s all product placements for a Guo Li Duo milk drink, right from the opening scene:
"What does Iron Man rely on to revitalize his energy?" You guessed it: "Guo Li Duo." What is Wang Xueqi's character spotted drinking in the Chinese cut? That’s right: Guo Li Duo.
Needless to say, audiences are pissed about the whole thing. Shanghaiist quotes Kotaku's Eric Jou:
"This whole production is an insult to the intelligence of the Chinese audience perpetrated by the ridiculous co-production regulations set out by SARFT. The Chinese version is a hot mess of poor planning. The addition of Fan Bingbing and Wang Xueqi does absolutely nothing to advance the flow and plot points of the movie, I mean, seriously who the fuck comes to China for heart surgery?"
Here are some A&C events this week:
- Duchamp opens at UCCA
- The Multitude Prize exhibition
- Special Worker’s Day cabaret show
- Drama workshops on Tuesdays
- Commemoration of the Sichuan earthquake on film
Watch this ridiculous ad for Guo Li Duo and you've pretty much seen the Chinese cut of Iron Man 3
