Talking Pints: A Great Leap for Brewpubs and Everything Must Go at Black Sun
We've been waiting a while for it, but the Great Leap Brewpub seems to be edging closer to opening. They've now announced a soft opening phase from May 4 to May 6 between 6:30pm and 10:30pm where you can sample some of their seasonal sauce in their shiny new surroundings. RMB 100 will get you four sample beers and some grub off the new menu. Good deal, and worth checking out what could be one of the hottest spots of the summer. You do have to reserve, though. Email here to make a reservation.
The big one is next weekend. Have you got your tickets yet? I'd be snappy about it, they're going like hot baozi. But there's a few neat tricks around town this coming week to keep us ticking over until then.
Happy Cinco de Mayo for Sunday. After a two-day work week, it was way too much to ask that it fall on a Saturday, but don't let that stop you enjoying the festivities. Hat's off to Beijing Boyce for his run down of what you can do to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this weekend. Head that way and check it out.
Q Mex is having an event, so is Mas, so is Cantina Agave, and so is The Brick.
Don't forget – as if you could – that the NHL Playoffs are in full swing. Get up early on the morrow to check out some Game 2s.
Chaoyang Park old boy Black Sun Bar is giving drink away today! Well, almost:
"Friday Night – stock at Black Sun will be for sale for next to nothing due to a restocking of the bar with brand new menus. The best deals in town for REAL alcohol. Happy hour all night. Premium beers buy-two-get-one-free all night. Double your house mixer for RMB 10 all night."
Was the rather direct message I got from management over there. No time for niceties when there's beer to be given away, I suppose. Maybe that takes care of tonight?
If real drink isn't all your into, there's lots of other stuff going on for you. Some highlights:
- Brazilian DJ S.P.Y is at Lantern dropping drum 'n' bass bombs on your ass.
- Get funky at the Second Annual James Brown Day at Migas.
- Mas celebrates its One Year Anniversary with a hutong beach party tomorrow afternoon (May 4).
- Put that rubbish scan function on your smart phone to good use on the First Belgium QR Pub Crawl tomorrow (May 4).
- And don't forget about the Ying Yang Twins at Spark on Wednesday night..
There's plenty more going on, too, but you'll have to check our events section to find out more.
For now, have a smashing weekend and don't get sunburned.
