Talking Tunes: All Bases Covered

Four big shows coming up in the next week – most of them this weekend – starting tonight (Aug 22) when Pet Shop Boys take the stage at MasterCard Center for their second China show (after Shanghai earlier this week). Remember when the show was a mere rumor? Reviews of the tour have been solid so far so we can expect a good show.

It would be quite the boon were we to get a show as good as Beijing Daze described his Shanghai Metallica experience to be recently, but let's hope for the best. Video surfacing from the recent Shanghai leg of the tour, suggests we might be in for a treat:

If flamboyant electronica ain't your thing, how about two-piece indie rock? A small band, but a big noise comes our way tomorrow (Aug 23) when Japandroids perform at MAO Livehouse. Split Works' Archie Hamilton says the promoters have been working hard to get the Vancouver rockers to town since 2009 and we reckon this could one of the shows of the summer. Not to be missed.

While you're here, you might as well check out our recent interview with the band.

And if neither indie rock nor electronica are your bag, then you're just one ingrate. Nevertheless, will Finnish folk metal do for you? Finntroll rock Yugong Yishan tomorrow night – pixie ears and all.

The other big show I mentioned comes next Wednesday (Aug 28) when Mr. Worldwide (aka Pitbull) drops in on Beijing at the Workers' Gymnasium as part of his own world tour.

So there you are, all bases covered in the coming days.
