Talking Tunes: Tonight's Ghastly Gigs and Powter Lands

Lenka - The Show

Seems most of the city's live music spots are hosting some manner of gruesome get-together tonight. There are no fewer than seven listed in our music events section, as Cantopop hero Andy Lau performs the second of three nights at the MasterCard Centre.

Here are the Halloween shows tonight:

Badass Halloween at Au Goulot
"Feel like Clockwork Orange's Alex and his droogs..."

Halloween Music Festival at Hot Cat Club
"Featuring a variety of local and international acts..."

Bloody Swing Halloween Party at Jianghu Bar
"Mademoiselle et son Orchestre is a six-piece band based in Beijing..."

Halloween Night at Temple Bar
"This Halloween we'll be celebrating Hell's night at Temple with Devils at the Crossroads and Beijing's own Misfits tribute band..."

Beatles's Night at VA Bar
"Bring a mask or costume and jam to the Beatloves, a five-man Beatles tribute band while they play all the classics."

Halloween Hoedown at Yugong Yishan
"Those raucous boys of 'Americana,' The Randy Abel Stable will be hosting their Annual Halloween Hoedown..."

Jazz Halloween at Zajia
"We are going to have a Jazz Halloween with three famous jazz musicians deciding to stage a concert..."

Fender Music are giving away a signed Avril Lavigne guitar. Rather, a guitar signed by the diminutive Canadian pop pixie. To win, you have to follow the Fender Weibo account and "@ them" a picture of yourself that proves you're a huge Avril fan. The mind boggles with regard to what you might be doing in that picture.

New Sanlitun night spot Ink has been in touch to tell us they've booked talented violinist Yasmine Azaiez for a stop on November 30. She's highly accalimed and will be singing as well as playing violin, supported by DJ Alessandro Vigo.

Aussie punk outfit The Bennies will be passing through town later this month on a China tour. They hit Beijing on November 20 at School Bar.

Four big shows from international tourists over the next four nights beginning tomorrow:

  • Aussie alt-pop songstress Lenka finally makes Beijing with a show at MasterCard Centre on Friday night (Nov 1). You might not be all that familiar with her, but I bet you've heard that ear worm of hers up there at the top of this page.
  • Finnish folk shamen Korpiklaani are at Yugong Yishan (where else?) on Saturday night (Nov 2). That will be a very different experience from Lenka is about all I can guarantee.
  • Sunday night (Nov 3) is the big one: wonderous one-hit wonder that he is, Daniel Powter returns to Beijing at ThinkPad Space as part of his latest China tour. "You had a bad day, de, de, de, de, duh..." Brilliant.
  • And on Monday night (Nov 4) American alt-rockers One Republic are in Beijing at Workers' Gymnasium as part of their Native world tour.

There you have it. Lots to do over the next few nights. Go here for even more.
