Beijing Salad Delivery Service Nets USD 1.6 Million Dollars in Funding
It looks like food delivery is the industry to be in in Beijing at the moment, with the news that local salad delivery company Sweetie Salad has raised at least USD 1.6 million in series A funding, according to a report by Sina Tech (English version available on Tech in Asia). Food delivery services are increasingly becoming the darlings of the tech world in China, looking to capitalize on a market that seems ready and willing to accept features such as mobile payment through WeChat.
The Beijinger office was treated to a visit from Sweetie Salad when they were just getting started last year, and we were very impressed by their healthy salads in fun combinations. At the time, one of the founders Echo told us that they wanted to come up with a food delivery concept that satisfies the needs of people who are increasingly concerned with food safety, organic ingredients and the convenience afforded by online ordering, an idea that they have dubbed "shirbility" (or 事儿B for the Chinese speakers out there).
If you want to try out Sweetie Salad, you'll need to place your order before 6.30pm one day in advance. Choose from a range of salads, including combos like prosciutto and bean, and Inca quinoa, all of which come in tall, plastic containers designed to help you shake up your salad to mix in the dressing. Salads range from RMB 25-55 (all salads come with bread).
