Your Weekend in Live Music: Horse Radio, Gum Bleed, Luv Plastik, Nakoma, Stevie Mac & The Mac Daddies, and More!
Below is the best this week has to offer in Beijing’s music realm. While most of this weekend’s attention is going to the BEME festival happening around town, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a couple raucous rock offerings for those of you clinging to your “drum machines have no soul” bumper sticker.
Oct 23: Horse Radio
Beijing is in no shortage of Mongol alt-rock, but few bands like Horse Radio emerge from the steppe with such a unique sound. They don’t only rock, but they also soothe and sway you away to forgotten melodies and experimental sounds of the grasslands that build upon centuries of Mongolian musical tradition. RMB 80, RMB 60 (advance). 9pm. DDC
Oct 24: Gum Bleed, Luv Plastik, GuiGuiSuiSui, Nakoma, The Final Impact
Local promoter Dr. Smartass is back again and celebrating one year of shows with a loaded line up of some of Beijing’s most gruesome punk and grunge bands. Get over to School Bar for a long night of unadulterated rock n roll fun. As always, its free. 9pm. School Bar
Oct 24: Stevie Mac & The Mac Daddies
Sometimes I feel like if I see another “& The” band in the fold i’m going to get sick all over my slacks. Luckily that isn’t the case with Stevie Mac & The Mac Daddies. Get a dose of classic pop standards with this group of musicians inspired by the glitz and glam of the old world. Using vintage stylings to reinterpret contemporary music they will no doubt swing you along on a wild ride of superb musicianship. Free. 9pm. Modernista
