When Your Local Massage Joint Just Won't Do: Downtown Pampering at Rosewood Beijing's Sense Spa
I am a sucker for a fancy spa, so when Rosewood Beijing announced the opening of their Sense Spa earlier this year, I knew I was in for a treat, since Rosewood have already proven themselves to be one of Beijing's best hotels, whether in terms of dining, design, or service.
Entering the spa via a wooden bridge over tranquil pools (see lead photos above) and you feel instantly calmer. I opted for a simple full-body oil massage and was led to a luxurious treatment room complete with own bathroom and changing area. The massage was not particularly groundbreaking but the diminutive masseuse did prove to be much stronger than she looked and I left with considerably fewer shoulder kinks than when I started. Once you're done with you're treatment, you're led to a dimly-lit relaxation area with reclining chairs and nice view of the CBD. A quick word on the swimming pool, which is adjacent to the spa: it is sublime.
Since we are talking about pampering, why not make a night of it and splash out on Rosewood's Trés Sense Pampering package. From RMB 4,500 (plus surcharge) you'll get the following perks, and more:
- Accommodation in a Sense spa suite
- 90-minute “Luxury Gold” treatment for two
- 45-minute poolside foot massage for two
- In-room healthy breakfast for two
- Unlimited detox wheatgrass shots and smoothies (not sure how I feel about this one ...)

Considering a stay in one of Rosewood's basic (we use the term loosely) rooms will set you back around RMB 2,000, the package pretty much makes financial sense, especially if you would have visited the spa anyway.
The spa suites, which are on the sixth floor on the same level as the spa and pool, have great views out over the CBD (weather permitting, of course). You know when you see luxury hotels on Instagram and think "I wish that was my life?" Yeah, this is basically that and it can be all yours, for one night at least. Real talk, the suite is bigger than some Beijing apartments I've stayed in. Heck, the bathtub is bigger than some Beijing apartments I've stayed in.
Oh, you want more encouragement? All the Rosewood's suites have access to the super-classy Manor Club where you can get classily tipsy on free-flow champagne, wine, and cocktails during their daily cocktail hour (5.30-8pm) - careful though, the top ups of wine seem to appear out of nowhere after the third (or was it fourth?) glass. Breakfast is also served in the Manor Club, although those taking advantage of the Trés Sense Pampering deal can also have a healthy and spa-appropriate breakfast served in-room.
