Dine Like an American Ambassador Apr 25-May 1 at 29 Grill, Conrad Beijing
From April 25 to May 1, dine like the US ambassador. American Embassy Chef Michael Rosenblum will be cooking up a storm in the kitchen of 29 Grill at Conrad Beijing. The menu is assembled in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, whose family is from the same state as Chef Rosenblum, Georgia, and for whom the chef also cooked.
Georgian influences were present in the dishes we tasted, especially the shy crawfish (pictured above). Chef Rosenblum fondly recounted his childhood tales of looking for crawfish under the deep red Georgia mud, represented here by a delicate jelly made of green peaches, the fruit most closely associated with Georgia.
Other Southern American touches are brought out in the ham hock in the third course, and the roast chicken with sweetcorn grits and yams in the fourth course, all beautiful homestyle flavors that aren't readily available in other Beijing restaurants.
