Partake In the Ancient Tradition of Commerce at the Beijing Flea Market this Weekend
The Beijing Flea Market is back and bigger than ever this weekend at The Bookworm. This is likely the closest thing you can find to one of those lovely weekend garage sales back home. A genuine mix of local crafts, clothing, and delicious food.
This will be a huge departure from those makeshift sidewalk flea markets outside of popular living compounds, where people sit around most days selling whatever treasures they found while picking through the garbage.
This could be anything from used cosmetics, a destroyed Kenny G tape, a pair of baby shoes (never worn), or if you’re lucky a dirty little puppy or kitten.
This market, going on this Saturday (Apr 2) from midday-5pm, won’t have any actual fleas, just 30 plus vendors selling you unique products that you wouldn’t normally find anywhere else in the city. There will be some handmade goods, jewelry, vintage clothing, shoes, household items, books, soaps, paper goods, and much much more.
Did we mention food and drinks? Well in addition to crafts and secondhand goods, the cream of the crop of Beijing bakers, including Big Bear Baked Goods, Sweet Tart Bakery, and 9cm Bagel will be on the premises slinging cakes, cookies, and other delicious goods to help you get hyped up on sugar and ruin your appetite. Also, make sure to take advantage of all day drink specials courtesy of The Bookworm to wet your whistle after copious amounts of sweet and savory concessions.
Now for the best part. It’s a free event and a good place to network with people doing interesting things in our community. So get over to the season’s first flea market and partake in the ancient tradition of commerce.
