Shenzhen to Build Three Airports, One-Third of Domestic Flights Delayed, Terminal 2 to Get Skyteam Lounge
Shenzhen has come to the conclusion that it needs more capacity for flights to both the region and the world, so it's going to build not one, not two, but three airports so that it can double its capacity by 2020,. So over the next four years, new airports for commercial flights, seaplanes, and helicopters will be constructed, South China Morning Post reported. Seaplanes? Helicopters? We'll believe those two when we see them. But no, we didn't expect we'd see a new airport built in Beijing either, not after Terminal 3 was constructed.
Our buddies over at The Nanfang wrote about one-third of all domestic flights in China being delayed, which frankly surprised us because we would have guessed more. Especially this time of year, when downpours like Monday night's in Beijing could leave one sitting on the tarmac or in the terminal for hours, we have a strong recommendation: take the train. We can't say this often enough, especially for high-traffic routes like Beijing-Shanghai. Please. Please take the train.
We mentioned the advantages of Beijing Capital International Airport's Terminal 2 in a recent edition of Talking Travel, and for those already swayed by the pull of non-Star Alliance airlines, here one more benefit. Skyteam, which includes airlines such as Delta, KLM, and Korean Air, will be opening its own lounge in Beijing in the fourth quarter of 2016. It already operates lounges in five other airports: London Heathrow, Istanbul, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Dubai.
More travel news and reviews on Friday. Until then, one road flat safe.
