Two Guys and a Pie, Billy’s Fish & Chips Shut Down their Sanlitun Nanjie Stores
Sanlitun Nanjie is all hustle and bustle. Since July, there has been non-stop construction on the small street leading to Sanlitun's kinetic heart, the buildings covered with green nets, rusty iron pipes, and accented with the sound of endless drilling. As annoying as that was, it wasn't until now that the construction wielded any sad news, and unfortunately Two Guys and a Pie and Billy’s Fish & Chips are two stores to have bitten the proverbial dust, due to rising rent and the destabilizing affect of endless changes in policy in the area.
But don’t cry just yet, as Two Guys and a Pie's kitchen is still running in Shunyi, waiting to churn out tasty pies for delivery and events. Frozen portions can be ordered via their online store, or on WeChat: pieshopbeijing. There are eight pies and three sausage rolls available, including Two Guys and a Thai (green curry chicken), The Paddy (beef, mushroom, and Guinness), Sup Lamb (lamb and vegetable), Slow Loving Aussie (classic beef brisket and onion), Sweet Tweet (honey soy chicken), Garden of Pie (Italian vegetable), Hunan (beef and peppers), Sleepy as Roll (sausage roll), Spinach Feta roll, and of course, the classic sausage roll.
Billy’s Fish & Chips, which made it all the way into the Top 32 in the Beijinger's 2016 Burger Cup, and also participated in the 2016 Foodie Weekend, is still looking for a new location so that their popular fish and chips and fish burgers can still be enjoyed by patrons. To fill the gap (or erase the memories), make your way to the east corner of Taikooli, where owner Billy Guo continues to run his Billy’s Mojito Bar, providing various solid mojitos at RMB 15 a pop.
And amid the chaos, there is a glimmer of hope that other venues may hang on, with Mr. Shi’s Dumplings, Tiger Mama, Dengji Noodles, Blissful Nomnoms, Tongyao Bar, and Hand Held Hot Pot all still running as usual.
