Art Weekly: “Boundary,” Wu Jianjun Solo Show, “Illegitimate Production,” and an Interactive Show
In this week's Art Weekly, we have two young artists seeking to present global problems in different ways: a solo exhibition by Wu Jianjun, and an interactive theater production. Plenty more exhibitions can be found here.
September 16: The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep and Their Elopement
The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep and Their Elopement, is a comedy production that combines theater, storytelling, livefeed technology, and Danmaku (i.e. "bullet curtain," the Japanese art of barraging audiences' senses). The show returns to Beijing as part of the Beijing One International Festival at 8.30pm-9.30pm on September 16. Room 7, 27 Neiwubu Jie
Until September 30: Boundary
This solo exhibition from Zhu Rixin takes its title from ancient Chinese literature, representing the transformation from material to the metaphysical, phenomenon to noumenon. Boundary becomes the synthesis of space and time. He proffers that when geological phenomena occur, they result in a collision between natural powers and human fictional boundaries. Until October 9: Wu Jianjun Solo Exhibition
Wu Jianjun celebrates his first solo exhibition at De Sarthe Gallery. Instead of seizing on the endless trends of his fast-moving environment, this 50-year-old artist does the opposite; painting the things that don't change. These bodies are timeless forms of mankind, and represent the tensions that flesh gives rise to. De Sarthe Gallery
Until October 16: Illegitimate Production
Born in 1989, the young Chinese artist Yang Mushi holds a solo exhibition exploring artworks using industrial raw materials, such as processed wood, foam, and sawdust. He changes the shapes of the materials and covers them with black lacquer, creating pieces that convey a peculiar feeling of solitude. Galerie Urs Meile
