Kick Mediocrity Right in the [Expletive] Teeth by Registering for Oct 30’s Spartan Race

Jump over fire, wade through mud, crawl under barbed wire, and scale over inverted walls. Doesn’t sound like your typical race now, does it? Well, the Spartan Race – also known as the world’s best obstacle race – is as bona fide proving ground for badasses the world over, and it’s a sprint that has finally found its way to Beijing.

The race, to be held on October 30 in Beijing’s Fengtai District, will encompass over 20 unique obstacles spread over a six-kilometer course. Make no mistake: Getting muddied and wet is part and parcel of the race – some contestants are even left battered and bloodied – so if you're sensitive namby-pamby, you need not read on. Despite the threat of pain, its the kind of race that also invigorates, testing one's mental fortitude, leaving those that manage to finish with a true sense of accomplishment.

The video below offers a glimpse of what can be expected:

Although seemingly daunting, the Beijing iteration of the race is a mere Spartan Sprint when compared to the Spartan Super (at least 12km) or the Spartan Beast (at least 19km) races. Nevertheless, many notable athletes and celebrities, including Chinese Olympic track star, Zhang Peiming, have committed to joining.

Choose between racing in the Elite or Open categories; the former has cash prizes for those that finish in the top three, whereas the latter lets individuals compete as part of a group/team. To register for the race (early bird prices are available until October 16) simply click here. So go on, prove you've got the mettle to call yourself a Spartan!
