After Arrival, At Least 7 More Hollywood Sci-Fi's Could Be Heading Our Way (And Watch Their Trailers)

We’ve barely started the year and already there have been three Hollywood science fiction releases in the China market. First up was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Passengers and this weekend we see the unlikely arrival of, er, Arrival (pictured at the top).

In fact, according to China Film Insider’s box office expert Jonathan Papish, this weekend will be the first ever that three imported sci-fi films place in the top five at the box office here.
As he points out, previous thought-provoking sci-fi films like The Martian and Interstellar have done pretty well in the Chinese market, so it’s perhaps not altogether surprising that there might be a lot more on its way.
Here’s a tentative list of Hollywood sci-fi films that are trying to rocket their way into the rapidly expanding Chinese film market. Industry insiders and the local film press are all mentioning them as strong contenders.
The Space Between Us (世界之外)
Release date: February 3 in U.S., China unconfirmed
Scientists raise a young boy after he is unknowingly sent to Mars with them. When he returns from the red planet he not only has to deal with a budding romance but also the fact his body is not accustomed to Earth's gravity.
Life (异星觉醒)
Release date: March 24 in U.S., China unconfirmed
Astronauts on the International Space Station find what might be the first proof of extraterrestrial life beyond Earth. Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson deal with the fall-out of their discovery.
