Fang Bar Bids Farewell to Fangjia Tonight (Aug 28), Set to Reopen at Jiaodaokou on Saturday (Sep 2)

Yet another Fangjia Hutong bar is set to close soon, but this time that development comes with good news.

Fang Bar –  an esteemed cocktail joint that opened on Fangjia during the alley's 2015 prime, before it was beset by brick-laying laborers and business-slaying redevelopment – will have a last hurrah for its original location tonight (Aug 28), with its regular weekly buy two, get one free cocktail deal. After this final night at Fangjia, co-founder Zak Elmasri and his colleagues will move to the nearby Jiaodaokou Shoubi Hutong, for a soft opening this Thursday or Friday, before hosting a proper grand opening bash on Saturday (Sep 2).

When Elmasri and his cohorts first opened Fang in October 2015, the bar immediately made a splash. That can be chalked up to its low-key yet classy atmosphere, and its generously boozy cocktails that feature creative use of locally sourced ingredients.

While this move means the once-humming Fangjia will lose yet another of the businesses made it a Dongcheng F&B hub, it's great to hear that one of its best watering holes will reopen in the vicinity with relative seamlessness. If only the same could be said for much of the other victims roiled by this year's street-level redevelopments.

We'll give you a sneak peek of Fang's new Jiaodaokou digs before its Saturday debut.
