Shine Bright Like a Diamond: Edible Jewels at Art de Sweets, Indigo
If you follow our food blog diligently, you might already know about the Eatalia Group's dedication to all things delicious and beautiful. The art gallery-cum-restaurant space Galleria, in the basement of Jiaming Center near the East Third Ring Road, and Eatalia, with their authentic Roman pizzas, are continuing their beauty streak with a new dessert shop at Indigo, on Jiuxianqiao.
Continuing in the pursuit of art, the place is bright and elegant, decorated with marble and bronze. The way they display their desserts are similar to a jewelry store or design shop – lined up in a spotless, brightly lit glass counter; wait staff wearing white gloves; several pristine white tables throughout the space where patrons can carefully inspect, appreciate, and eat the tasty little works of art.
Art de Sweets embodies the group's mission, with an emphasis on eye-catching sweets, such as macaroons (RMB 22), éclairs (RMB 26), pastries (RMB 8-18), and desserts made with The 3D Food Company using 3-D printing technology (RMB 48-65). The experience was like visiting a jewelry store, especially when we saw the giant diamond in glittering red.
We kicked off the tasting with the chocolate whiskey macaroon (RMB 22), with a strong alcoholic flavor thanks to the whiskey infused to balance the sweetness. The passion fruit and black tea macaroon was zesty and equally easy on the eyes. As for the 3-D printed desserts, we were excited to try the stunning red diamond cake (RMB 60), with doubts that it could taste as perfect as it looks. This diamond is, unfortunately, not forever: After admiring the shiny, geometrically flawless diamond, you must break the hard red-dyed white chocolate crust to spoon out the soft inside of passion fruit and black tea flavors, which are well worth the pain of breaking the perfect diamond. It’ll definitely be a nice gift for your besties or fiancé.
We also enjoyed the tiramisu millefoglie (RMB 56), with a spongy base, creamy and flaky layers of millefoglie, and strong flavors of tiramisu and creamy topping with crisp sugary balls to add texture. We have to confess that we were too full to taste anything else, leaving the hazelnut diamond cake (RMB 65), peach cake (RMB 48), and the apple cheesecake (RMB 56) for next time. If you choose to go humble, they also have simple croissants (RMB 12-18), fruit Danish, pretzels (RMB 8), and baguettes (RMB 15), coffee (RMB 22-36), as well as birthday cakes (RMB 369-420). These sweets are more than just eye candy, and taste great while giving you some laughs along the way.
