Lights! Camera! Action!: 3rd Annual Beijing Indie Short Film Festival Slated for Jun 2 at Camera Stylo and Jun 10 at UCCA
Aspiring auteurs: here’s your chance for a shot at the limelight. The third annual Beijing Indie Short Film Festival is slated for Jun 2 at Camera Stylo and Jun 10 at UCCA.
One of the few independent short film fests in Beijing, filmmaker and festival director Joshua Linder (who also goes by the artistic alias ProfessaJ) describes the event as a good way for burgeoning directors to network, meet other filmmakers and, above all, have a place to showcase their films.
“One of the greatest parts of showcasing your film at a festival, as opposed to putting it online, is you get to feel the audience reaction. You get to hear and see it, in its full and purposeful quality,” Linder tells the Beijinger. “This is one of the few avenues people who make independent films, films that connect to the spirit of filmmaking, the spirit of humanity, can actually show their work.”
Linder adds that the events’ mandate is wide: both locals and expats, those based in Beijing or elsewhere, can all submit their works as long as they “have a connection to Beijing one way or another.”
And while such screening events can often be dismissed for being too uppity and abstract, Linder says this festival will instead appeal to movie buffs of all stripes. “We have an awesome array of genres, from the artiest arthouse to action films with the most intense fight scenes you’ve ever seen, including people who have fought with Jackie Chan and other superstars in the genre.”
The third annual Beijing Indie Short Film Festival event is slated to take place Jun 2 at Camera Stylo and Jun 10 at UCCA. The fest is already accepting submissions, and the deadline to submit is May 19. For more information, click here.
