These Lip-Numbing Hunan Fish Rice Noodles Are Made for Snowy Days
As winter grinds on, it's time to embrace the plethora of foods that seem designed with our mittened hands and numb noses in mind. Xianyuexian Yufen is one such place, offering bowl after bowl of Hunan-style fish noodles in CBD.
Here, fresh fish mingle with a range of spicy ingredients (think ginger, garlic, and chili pepper) for a result that makes our southern brethren (and nobody else) think 'breakfast!'. The broth is milky-white thanks to a six-hour boil, and the chunks of fresh fish, including catfish, are fried before being added to the soup, creating an authentic and spicy bowl on noodles. It's also likely to bring a tear to your eye thanks to slivers of native-to-Yunnan wrinkled skin pepper.
Soup noodles cost between RMB 29-46 and there are also dry non-fish rice noodles for RMB 19-23. Those prices coupled with the niche offerings means that Xianyuexian Yufen gets busy at lunch, filled with the noises and chatter of customers slurping on palate-tingling and lip-numbing bowls of fish noodle soup.
God, we love noodles. Luckily, there are a lot to choose from.
