Calling All Pizza Lovers: Vote Now to Save Your Fave Venue From Being Sliced

A mere four days have passed since the epic Beijing Pizza Festival, but as our fans will know, that the festival is just the beginning: the 2019 Beijing Pizza Cup currently rages on with over 100 venues battling it out to be crowned this year's best pizza.

Voting is already hotter than a freshly-baked brick oven pie and the competition will only intensify as we go from close to 100 contenders to a mere 32 at noon tomorrow. So if you have a favorite that you'd like to push through to the championship rounds, get voting!

Remember: the top seeds this year are the Final Four from last year: Gung Ho!, La Pizza, Bottega, and The Local. Has a crafty newcomer hasn't tickled your pizza fancy in the past 12 months with their fresh take on the beloved slice? If so, give them a push into the next round.

The Qualification Round

In this round, you need to select 32 best pizza venues, which will battle it out in this year's cup. All you need do is scan the list and check off your favorites. We may have lost numerous competitors from last year but we've also gained a fair few too.

Each competitor has been seeded into one of four brackets designed to balance the strong, the less-than-strong and the newbies so that all have a fair chance of making it to the next round.

Vote on personal experience only – choose your favorites, and don't go by name recognition alone. Choose as many or as few as you like.

The Qualification Round is open until this Friday, Oct 25, giving you only 24 hours to whittle your favorites down.

Next, we enter the knockout stage where competitors go head-to-head to see who makes it to the next round.

When You'll Vote

When voting closes on Friday, the top eight contestants from each bracket will go on to be seeded into a 32-contestant World Cup-style sudden death competition bracket. This bracket will be put up for another round of voting – and also gives you a chance to “fill out your dance card” so to speak and try the remaining 32 before casting a ballot.

In each successive round, the number of contestants is cut by half. We'll keep doing that until only one remains: Your pizza champion for 2019. The schedule for voting will be as follows:

  • Round of 32: Friday, October 25, 3pm
  • Sweet 16: Tuesday, October 29, 3pm
  • Elite Eight: Friday, November 1, 3pm
  • Final Four: Tuesday, November 5, 3pm
  • Championship Round: Friday, Nov 8, 3pm
  • Beijing's Best Pizza crowned: Tuesday, Nov 12, 4pm
