Five Stars or Bust! Chaoyangers Can Now Rate Their Favorite Public Restrooms

The Chaoyang District government is on a mission: that no toilet should be left unseen by your mobile phone! To make sure that all public bathrooms are labeled, photographed, and visible from your screen, the Chaoyang District Urban Management Committee has dispatched a team of toilet surveyors and administrators on a rather smelly field trip. These intrepid washroom tech wizards and cartographers of comfort partnered with Amaps to map toilets and allow users to search and review all nearby facilities. Needless to say, George Costanza would be proud.

Here’s what these hardworking public servants discovered after beating the pavement for your bum:

A toilet on every corner

As it turns out, you have ample options for places to go in Chaoyang! The survey found that there are 1,684 public toilets in the area. In order to search for said bathrooms, press “附近 >厕所” (fùjìn > cèsuǒ, nearby > toilet,) in Amaps and the closest options will appear on the map.

Realtime maintenance updates

The mapped toilets can be updated in realtime, meaning if a toilet is being repaired or is temporarily closed, your bladder won’t unknowingly suffer the consequences.

Picture-perfect pedestals

Following internal recordkeeping, the surveyors photographed these visually appealing abodes – allowing would-be users to evaluate if it’s a worthy washroom.
