New in the Neighborhood: The Latest Eats and Drinks in Sanlitun
Peach by Hulu hits Sanlitun
With the success of Peach’s Laiguangying location after it joined the TRB family in October 2020, the sandwich-pasta-and-salad diner has expanded to Sanlitun, taking over a space on the second floor of Jenny Lou’s. Stay tuned for a full review soon once their terrace opens (just in time for Spring!), but for now, here are a few pics of the grub.

Cocktails and Natural Wine at Lumiere
Brought to you by Jamie He, formerly of Janes and Hooch, Bar Lumiere is turning back the hands on the face of Cogsworth to land somewhere betwixt the vintage architecture of the 1920’s and the retro-colored lighting of the 1960’s.
Mixology is certainly at the forefront, with most cocktails priced at RMB 88 (the Afterglow and the Supernova Champaign cocktail are the top recs). But the mixed drinks share a spotlight with wine, with a good selection of French bottles on display as well as an emphasis on natural wines.

Tipsy Sichuan Restaurant and Bar
The first of two significant additions to Courtyard 4, Shangting is certain to be the spicier of the pair, merging fine Sichuan dining with a nightclub-like atmosphere.
Light up your lips with the signature boiled fish (RMB 189), cooked in a broth with about equal volume of chili pepper as there is water. Then, fill up on carbs with the dandan noodles (RMB 38), get your protein with the peanut-covered chuan’r, or go the lighter route with a smoking platter of shrimp and veggie spring rolls (RMB 38), along with plenty of other Sichuan classics.
The bar is nothing to write home about, but there’s a standard parade of whiskeys and tequilas, as well a straightforward selection of imported beer, including Hoegaarden and Goose Island IPA.

Having Luck Hong Kong Hot Pot
Another new Courtyard 4 spot, this Hong Kong hot pot chain has taken over the space next to The Local that was formerly occupied by The Mole (formerly known as Prague Bar). Having Luck has a few locations scattered around the city, but this is now the most convenient spot for Sanlituners to dine on its meatball-heavy menu. Its exterior also lends the neighborhood an air of Hong Kong street life.

Mechanical bull in Taikooli
Move over, Wall Street – and also every rodeo-themed bar in the world – because the new mechanical bull statue in front of the Apple Store in Taikooli is big enough to crush you all.
Installed in celebration of the Year of Ox and/or Bull, this big boy is all horned up and ready to pounce. Shoppers beware, because rumor has it that if you wave red underwear in front of him, he’ll sprint straight toward you.
