The weekend is here! Time for fun, relaxation, and recharging the ol' batteries ahead of *gulp* Monday morning's alarm clock. Luckily enough, there’s plenty of fun stuff to keep you occupied over the weekend that doesn't necessarily involve getting blitzed. Our weekend roundup offers you some of the best.


May 29: Jingkids Summer Fling

Summer is coming … and expats and local families alike are planning their June, July, and August. But international travel is OUT due to COVID-19 restrictions. So that means summer in Beijing… what are you going to do? Join hundreds of families on the grassy knoll of downtown Beijing’s Dongfeng International Sports Park for Jingkids Summer Fling, where you can picnic, play, and interact with over 40 interactive booths staffed by summer camps, travel agencies, extra-curricular activity providers, youth sports leagues, academic skills providers and the like. May 29-30: Discover Germany

Longing for a bit of German culture? Head to Discover Germany at Wangjing Culture Square for a weekend of Germanic fun, featuring German football clubs, German beer and food, traditional performance, a flea market and more. Free. 10am onwards. Wangjing Culture Square

May 29: Spittoon turns six

Join Spitton as they mark their sixth anniversary with a day-long celebration of creativity. Events include rooftop readings organized by each of Spittoon's event hosts, a glimpse at Spittoon’s latest project, Spittoon Theater, with scenes presented from T.S. Eliot’s The Cocktail Party, tunes from DJ Boss Cuts and DJ Loooongish Cat, a haiku contest, photo booth, flip cup, and other literary drinking games. Festivities begin at 3pm. Free. 3-8pm. May 29: A tribute to the legends of jazz

Individually they have entertained crowds all over the world, but on this occasion, these four artists will play together right here in Beijing in an event put together by Crafters and Xian Bar. Nathaniel Gao (alto sax), Satoshi Kataoka (guitar), Charlie Wang (bass), and Victor Bastidas Rodriguez (drums) will delight you with two 45 min sets of Jazz classics from greats such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, and Ornette Coleman. May 30: the Beijinger's hot chili pepper eating competition

Join us from 3-5pm to witness 12 competitors from eight countries battle it out for the championship! An audience of witnesses will gather far and wide to watch our tribe of pepperheads snarf ten rounds of increasingly hot chili peppers, until but one champion remains. The winner walks away with bragging rights as well as booze from our sponsors KWV and swag galore from The Beijinger. All other victims participants will also take home surprises (aside from frequent visits to the toilet) to mark their gutsy attempt at glory. You can witness history (and maybe, just maybe, some projectile vomiting) for a mere RMB 100 – and your ticket will get you a free drink from KWV, snacks from Encuentro, and for the first 50 ticket buyers, a selection of Beijinger Blind Box goodies (hats, stickers, coupons, spicy sauces – you name it). May 30: Yoga in the city with Taozi Tree Yoga

A yoga class in a fantastic outside venue, right under the CCTV Tower, plus Jing-A beer. The Kerry Centre hosts this 75-minute Vinyasa Level 1/2 class taught by Theresa, founder of Taozi Yoga, on their beautiful garden patio, complete with the best views Beijing has to offer. May 30: Rumble in the Jumble Bazaar Tropicana

For their latest bazaar, Rumble in the Jumble have selected a collection of vendors providing everything you need for that tropical beach holiday that you've been dreaming of. You can get your fortune told, get a new tattoo, try out the most recent seasonal brews, listen to some summery smooth live tunes by the Beersmith band, and much more! Free. 4-10pm. Beersmith
