To Try List: Texas BBQ in Tongzhou, New Menus & More
Our To Try List covers new restaurants, dining deals, drinks discounts, guest shifts, pop-ups, and more happenings in Beijing.
The gods of food and drink have blessed Beijing with plenty of happenings this week, from pop-ups to soon-to-debut collabs and even some new barbecue and fine dining options to choose from.
Slow Food Community’s New Menu is Fine Dining with Colorful Twists
First up is Mediterranean, with Slow Food Community in Lido having debuted a new set dinner menu. The menu, developed by Slow Food’s new food consultant, starts fresh and ends fresh with all dishes showing an emphasis on sustainably sourced ingredients and vibrant flavors.
Highlights include the Heirloom Tomatoes with Burrata, made with five different tomatoes and half the burrata made into burrata foam, lending it depth of flavor; and Guangdong-style Chicken Roasted with Lemongrass and cut tableside. If you go there now until Jun 9, you can enjoy 50 percent off a four course set menu plus two glasses of wine (an RMB 608 value for only RMB 298) if you purchase via Dazhong Dianping.

Burning Wood Brings Texas BBQ to Tongzhou
Low-and-slow comes to Tongzhou thanks to the newly opened Burning Wood BBQ. Situated on the second floor of a shiny sports complex, it’s the last place you’d expect Texas-style barbecued meats. That being said, it’s slowly becoming a hit with folks in the area, serving up the classics: Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, and Pulled Pork. They’ve also got Bacon Cheeseburgers plus sides – think beans, coleslaw, and even a few local Beijing snacks – making for a few options to choose from when you visit.

He’ll be serving up two dishes: Garlic Butter Chicken with Cream Spinach and Bacon and Eggplant Chickpea Tagine with Couscous.

Shake Shack Kicks Off Anniversary Collab on May 25
Shake Shack is celebrating five years in the Chinese mainland with a fine dining-inspired collab. They’ve partnered with Chef Jason Liu of Michelin-starred restaurant Ling Long to create two specialty, very limited time dishes.
These are the Ling Long Shack, a beef burger topped with a sauce made from Fujian oysters and topped with five spice, XO sauce, roselle-infused radish, fried shallot, fresh mizuna, and house-made mayo; and the Ling Long Oolong Shake, a frozen vanilla custard shake blended with charcoal-roasted oolong tea from Anxi.
The duo is available as a set for RMB 158, but it’s a very limited edition item: the set will only be on offer on Saturday, May 25 from 10am until sold out at Shake Shack Sanlitun Taikooli.
