Despite its basement location, Napoli’s sunny, Mediterranean decor (white stucco walls and marine blue hues) should have you lighten your mood even before you’ve ordered. Friendly, thoughtful service and warm bread keep the optimism ticking over until your food arrives. Pizzas (large sizes RMB 58-85) account for around half of the menu, which also offers a range of Middle Eastern dishes. A cracker-thin base and fine balance of toppings versus cheese distinguished the Quattro Stagioni, but there are over ten other choices.

Serving fresh, delicious South African fare, Pinotage has come up with the perfect combination of beautiful location (large patio overlooking a lake, filled with lotuses in summer) in the Lane Bridge Compound on the northeast Fifth Ring Road, a long wine list and good service.
