Following a split between foreign and Chinese business partners, where Dareen Shawarma once stood there now simply sits Shawarma (Jordanian Ahmed Saraireh has since opened his second venue in Sanlitun Soho). Offering a larger range of shawarma and salads, the restaurant has expanded on the original idea of cheap, fast, and satisfying grub for the masses while tidying up the presentation and a few fresher ingredients into the mix.

Having been ousted from his original location in Topwin Center, Jordanian Ahmad Saraireh goes it alone in the back of Sanlitun Soho's bustling food court, serving the same cheap and filling chicken shawarma and falafel wraps that won him so many fans in the first place.

The team behind long running Middle Eastern restaurant Al Safir has brought its winning straightforward formula to Shunyi’s pinnacle plaza with the new Ashraf's Arabic Restaurant. Be sure to try the RMB 30 shawarma loaded with juicy meat in firm wraps, RMB 30 platefuls of crispy falafel, to generously portioned RMB 100 mixed BBQ meat platters.

Among the flight of prized Middle Eastern restaurants beside Tuanjiehu station is an Iranian novice named after the ancient capital of the first Persian Empire, Persepolis. In a patch of land where one crowded hookah-filled patio can seem just as good as any, this newcomer has certainly staked its territory with confidence. For starters, the new furniture on the terrace certainly adds a shine that its tired comrades can’t match.

Shahrazad Arabic Restaurant
The salads, like the fattoush salad with its medley of fresh and zesty ingredients, were the highlight. The Shahrazad also serves up fried kibbeh (RMB 45), fattoush salad (RMB 30/60), hommos bi tahini (RMB 30/50), shash leak of veal (RMB 78), kashkash kebab (RMB 45) and rice with lamb (RMB 70).
