Chaoyang Park-朝阳公园

Central Park Plaza

The Ma Yansong-designed Central Park Plaza down by the south gate of Chaoyang Park may be Beijing's most ominous building, it's black transparent towers perceptible from as far away as Dongsishitiao. The complex is made up of apartment buildings, offices, and a low-key mall space that is home to The Mission Mexican Restaurant, Cheers, and a Gongcha, among others.

X-Flower

This endlessly delicate and dainty cafe and sweets shop gives off a Breakfast at Tiffany's vibe. Their mango coconut soufflé (RMB 78) is a palm-sized dessert is the cheapest item on the list. Its boldly golden hue is eclipsed only by its succulent sweetness and springy texture. And while it’s a quick fix for your sugar cravings, though it may be too rich for a sole patron to finish on their own.

Qimianting

Punk's not dead – it just retired, moved to Chaoyang, and started making Japanese food. At least that's certainly the case at Qimianting, on Maizidian’s Ichiban Street.

Replete with posters from Punk-O-Rama all-stars like Bad Religion, Rancid, The Descendents, and Dwarves, the aptly named, but charmingly low-key Chaos, and his business in partner, both busy punkers themselves in the Beijing scene, decided to open a little joint to escape the beer-drenched evenings of yore.
