Beijing Beats: Lux, Michal Jablonski, Ben Huang, Myle, Otaku Party

Beijing Beats brings you the best in Beijing nightlife each weekend so that you can soothe the woes of a long and stressful week with some out-of-body gyrating and some experiences you'd rather forget come Monday. Check the weekend's full list of nightlife events here.

Friday, May 31

Lux
Another week, another Leipzig DJ hits Zhao Dai to show that the smaller German city's beatmakers have just as much credo as their Berlin brothers to the north. This time it's Lux (pictured at top) who takes to the decks with her lush and cosmic mixes, a sound that she's honed as part of the ambient techno-centric Giegling collectivePrice TBA. 10pm doors. Zhao Dai

Michal Jablonski
Hypnotic, heavy, and with its fair share of industrial stylings, Polish DJ Michal Jablonski's brand of techno may feel cold on the surface but bubbles with enough life to keep you dancing in step deep into the night. Here he's joined with Aida and Weng Weng. RMB 80, RMB 50 (advance). 10pm doors. Lantern

Untitled
Dubbed Untitled for "it’s genre-defying and boundary-busting" approach to what a dance night can be, Dada opens their doors this Friday to the all-female line-up of QQ, Sun Meng, and Sohan. Free. 10pm doors. Dada

Plastic Zoo
Vinyl junkie DJ Watermelon joins Beijing veteran DJ Ben Huang for what promises to be one of the best lessons in funk, soul, jazz, and groove that the capital has seen in a good while. As long as it's upbeat and gets you moving, you can expect to hear it on Migas' terrace come Friday. Free. 10pm-3am. Migas Mercado

Saturday, Jun 1

Otaku Party
Japanese otaku subculture can span everything from manga to cars and basically applies to anyone with an interest so obsessive that it becomes detrimental to their health. For Dada's Otaku Party on Saturday, the interest in question appears to be eating glitter (don't do it, kids). The soundtrack? Vaporwave, anime music, afrobeat, grime, and drum and bass courtesy of DJs Tsunam, Oops2, and Ono Michi. Free. 10pm doors. Dada

Cangku 11th Year Anniversary Party
Is it called Cangku or Soi Baochao? It's been 11 years and we still have no idea. This weekend, to celebrate the quite frankly amazing continued existence of this small bar in hutongs, head over to knock back cheap jelly shots and endless Beer Laos while hanging in their loft space and enjoying tunes from DJs Dice Twice and Dizzydi. Free. 9pm. Soi Baochao

TechNOrules Presents: Myle
Beijing's primo female-only DJ troupe TechNOrules invite Swiss DJ Myle to join their latest outing, marking her Beijing debut. Formerly one half of ME & her, Myle has a sound that is described as the "perfect mix between organic, ethnic, and synthetic sounds." RMB 100, RMB 70 (advance). 10.30pm. Lantern
