Beijing Stalwart Mosto Needs Your Help!

First opened back in 2008 by longtime Beijing expat Eva Biörck and her husband Alex Molina and business partner chef Daniel Urdaneta, Mosto is a restaurant that could be considered a Beijing institution. And now, this institution needs your help.

One of the only casualties of the recent fiasco at Nali Patio, Mosto announced their sudden closure on Jun 30, just before the space was handed over to it’s previous landlord. Since the management change, though, Mosto has found itself unable to reopen as other restaurants did on Jul 8.

“On Jun 30, we literally did not know the future of Mosto” Eva tells me. The sudden changes, coupled with the constant openings and reopening due to Covid restrictions, loyal customers leaving China for good, a general fear among people of going to public places, especially restaurants and bars, have all contributed to hard times.

“This has really impacted our business, especially in terms of service delivery and revenue and even our spirit at times. But our belief in this city and our business is still strong” says Eva. “We have built not only this business but also our families here, and we are committed to continuing to serve our customers and engage with new patrons moving forward.”

Currently, Eva and her team don’t have the cashflow to meet the requirements to reopen Mosto, so they’ve launched a special membership program to generate revenue (details below). This is essentially a pre-paid Mosto experience which can be purchased through the group’s mini program. All one has to do is to scan the QR code below to buy.

At the end of the day, though, its not just Mosto but a great many members of the Beijing F&B community who have fallen on hard times. To this, Eva says “the one way patrons can support their favorite local restaurants in Beijing is to visit. All of us in the F&B industry are in need of support right now, not only Mosto.”
