I organized the perfect night out with friends...badminton, beer tasting, dinner, and dancing. Everything went wonderfully, except for the beer part. I pulled in a group of six people to The Drive-Thru...three of them beer drinkers, three of them not (the ladies)...
Before entering the shop, I explained to them my love of stout beer and why visiting this place was so important (it was my first time and I was planning to sample the chocolate stout and order some cider for one of the gals). No more than two minutes into the shop, a woman (manager?) approached my friends and told them they were not allowed to take pictures inside the shop. I was a bit confused by this so I asked her to clarify. One thing became clear to me...if we were there to buy, we were welcomed...otherwise, not.
Now, I can understand a shop's reluctance to entertain folks who aren't planning to purchase, but I'm not sure where they got their cues to prompt such an immediate retaliation. We certainly had not misbehaved and had up to that point, demonstrated nothing but appreciation for their selection and ambiance. We hadn't imposed on their time or space...we had only stepped in minutes earlier. Furthermore, we actually WERE there to purchase...I had been talking up this place and its exotic brews for days.
I was so taken by the shop folks' lack of courtesy and common sense, that without another word, I walked out.
I apologized to my friends for the sour experience and we all left without a sip.
