Burn Your Books: Kindle Finally On Sale In China?

An Amazon e-bookstore and e-reading apps have been available in China for a few months now, but it it’s been up in the air whether the Kindle itself would actually hit shelves. Excitingly, we’re seeing reports that Kindle Paperwhite pre-orders could be available as soon as today.

The hugely popular e-book has been trying to get to this part of the world for some years, but tricky regulations for wireless devices have kept it at bay. And it’s still not clear whether the ultra-connected Kindle Fire, powered by Android, will be allowed in China any time soon. For now, we only have the basic Kindle to get our grubby fingerprints all over.

As good news as this is (all the Dickens novels we ever wanted are free on the reader), we’re sorry to see sales of the Kindle start so late, especially after the iPad 3 mystically beamed its way to a new market over the Tomb Sweeping Holiday.
