Community Matters: Outstanding Women and Joe Gil Teaches Songwriting
Friday is Women’s Day and this month’s festivals are finally getting under way. Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening in our community this week.
Pop Musician Joe Gil will be in town for two performances and a songwriting workshop. Gil starts his Beijing run with an intimate charity performance at Green T Living tonight. Proceeds will go to Agape Family Life House which helps children who suffer from brittle bone disease in Qing Hai. On Friday night, the singer will help launch the Bookworm Literary Festival with his highly-praised brand of musical storytelling. And Saturday he’ll be training budding songwriters how to craft lyrics and melodies at Atelier.
Friday is Women’s Day and Green T Living has a special day of activities planned. This includes a brunch cooked by women, inspiring stories from successful women and a fashion show. All proceeds go to the Migrant Women collective. In the evening, FCGroup is hosting their annual WOW awards which celebrate the outstanding women of Beijing. Past recipients of the prize include Leslie Simpson from Roundabout Charity Store who recently received an OBE for her work helping poor children get urgent medical care.
Here are a few more events worth participating in:
- Speed dating for charity on Thursday night.
- A photography exhibition in remembrance of the March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
- A blood drive sponsored by Beijing United Family Healthcare and the Tongzhou Blood Bank.
