Talking Pints: A Hairy Bar Crawl and a Quiz Worth Winning

A lot of nightlife-related news to get through this week and I'm warming up for our MovemBar Crawl (I can't believe I only just thought of that) so we'll try to keep this brief.

Do not miss our Movember Bar Crawl (now also known as the MovemBar Crawl) as we take in nine of the participating bars in our Movember campaign. They each supported the cause manfully, and for that we'll raise a tankard of frothy ale in each. It kicks off at Serk at 5.30pm with the unemployed, the academic, and those with cool bosses who allow them to duck out early to get drunk on a Friday afternoon. It remains to be seen if I will be among their number. ["You better be." –Paul's cool boss]

Big news from Shuangjing haunt Plan B. They've announced a grand quiz prize at their monthly trivia tourney next Wednesday (Dec 5). The winners of the quiz, entitled "That's a Stupid Question", will win a dinner for four at Fairmont hotel eatery The Cut worth RMB 3000. Forewarning for those that haven't gotten along to Plan B yet: It's a tad snug so get there early to avoid the disappointment of missing out on a chance to win.

Still with Plan B: They're going smoke-free for the new year. As of January 1, 2013, those who like to light up will have to do it out in the cold. Reason (if ever you needed it) to pack in for the new year. They will also host a Hockey Night on December 16 for those Canucks and few Americans who will be going through hell during the NHL lockout. They'll have a night of reruns of classic matches to tide hockey lovers over. Warning for our American cousins: I do believe the gold medal match from the 2010 Olympics is spooled for a viewing at some point.

We've known it was coming for a while, but it seems the writing is now formally on the wall for The Saddle in Sanlitun. There's still no exact date for the closing, but it's been confirmed that it's inevitable.

The Tease Boutique party last weekend was a success (as you can see here). So successful in fact, that they've already scheduled the sequel. Tease Boutique II is set for December 8 in an "Anglican Church". That's as much as they'll tell us so far.

Former D Lounge boss Warren Pang is working on a new project. Jane & Hooch will be located around Sanlitun Courtyard No. 4 and Leon Lee (of Apothecary and Bar Veloce) will help out in a consultative capacity. Also, the long-anticipated Johnnie Walker House will be opening soon beside Maison Boulud.

Some other newsworthy snippets:

  • Beer Mania has opened its new kitchen. They're offering a 20% discount on all dishes during the kitchen's soft-opening period.
  • Due to popular demand, Mao Mao Chong will serve its Chicken Parma again this Sunday (Dec 2).
  • Black Sun Bar is holding a "Going Away for Xmas Party" on December 7 to give all those heading home a last chance to wish their friends happy holidays before they bounce.
  • Bar Veloce is launching a new brunch menu featuring "sweet and savory European delights, poached eggs and new panini options". Brunch will be served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am till 4pm.
  • Sanlitun Houjie newbie Lucky Bar is currently offering half-off all their cocktails, and between Sunday and Thursday they will have select cocktails priced at RMB 10 and RMB 15.
  • And The Tree has launched a late night Happy Hour. From midnight until closing, on all draft beer and house wine.

Finally, don't forget about Tiga this weekend. There's a big buzz about the Canadian's visit to Haze on Friday night, and it's shaping up to be a show not to be missed. I particularly enjoyed his comment on Facebook earlier this week when he claimed, "I have always felt a kinship with Asia because I also know what it feels like to be the future of the world." Here's to kinship.

Have a wonderful weekend.
