Electric Shadows Turns Three with Free Beer, Gift Bags and More!

In 2012 so far, you’ve had your chance to catch everything from 3-D blockbusters to old classics, from Chinese indie flicks to art films from all over the world.

No doubt one of the biggest reasons this cinematic variety is now available to you is screening organizers Electric Shadows, founded and helmed by cinephile and independent filmmaker Vicky Mohieddeen. If you haven’t given her a high-five lately, here’s your chance to show some love. They’re celebrating their third birthday Saturday night with a party on The Bookworm’s rooftop, and you’re invited!

On the docket for the celebrations: Bluegrass trio Ring Road Ramblers, free Tiger beer (get there early!), fun with movie trilogies, birthday cake, drink specials and lots of fun giveaways – including free DVDs! For readers of the Beijinger, Electric Shadows will also be setting aside gift bags for the first ten readers who show up to the party wielding a copy of our April issue.

And of course, you’ll get a chance to hear about all the great screenings that are coming up, including the start of the always-packed summer cinema series. This year, we can all look forward to such great films as The Artist (May 24), The Seven Year Itch (Jun 7) and The Wizard of Oz (Aug 30), showing under the stars. Also on The Bookworm’s rooftop, these screenings will come with themed cocktails and a crowd, so get ‘em on your calendars and be sure to show up early.

Also worth noting is Electric Shadows’ Food, Film and Friends series. First you learn to cook a region’s food, then you watch a kick-ass movie from that region. So far, they’ve taken us to Greece, Mexico, Thailand and more, and this month you can look forward to a culinary/cinematic trip to Vietnam with a screening of The Scent of Green Papaya (Apr 22).
