Kai: The Legend Lives on in Tongli

While its former incarnation was hardly the epitome of class, this place takes the biscuit. Sitting at the bar, I sipped my potent margarita (RMB 30) in amusement. I’d go here for the people-watching alone. Bieber-lookalike diplobrats were experimenting with liquor – and the dancing-pole – while middle-aged man-boys were daring one another to chat up the unimpressed ladies at the bar.

Dives are my not-so-guilty secret, and Kai is fantastic for your pre-game beverages, with most mixers (RMB 10), beers (RMB 10-35) and shooters (RMB 10) cheap as chips. While this may mean lots of drinks, it certainly doesn’t mean quality drinks. Grimy as ever, the dance floor will entice you and the atmosphere is intoxicating. It may have moved, but Kai is still everybody’s favorite dive. I suggest you jump right in. Just thank God you’ll have forgotten it by morning.

Good for: Shots, shots, shots (everybody)!
Also try: Shooters, Youth Club

Hmm, I think if I were a bar owner, "everybody's favorite dive" and drinks not being good quality and hoping you'll have forgotten it by morning wouldn't be worth paying for on a blog post. Is this your idea of a "nice review"?

It takes a positive tone but it's also pretty realistic about what you're gonna get: cheap drinks and cheap thrills. Anyone showing up at Kai expecting Atmosphere and then getting indignant about alcohol poisoning could stand to brush up on their reading comprehension skills.

I guess The Beijinger blog posts are up for sale because how can you give such a nice review of a place that serves fake alcohol and attracts rowdy Chinese of low socio-economic standing that are prone to fight?

When some foreigner gets 'alcohol' poisoning from this horrible excuse of a bar or beaten to death, I hope you feel an urge to commit hara-kiri.
