Review of Home Plate BBQ

Drug there by a birthday party, Saturday night in Sanlitun, so the 30 minute wait at the bar for seating to open up is completely understandable. What's not understandable is how people seated AT THE BAR cannot get a beer, despite repeated attempts. Tap is three feet where our asses are seated, thirty minutes, no beer. Seated at table, reiterate our collective drink order, along with food order. No drinks. No drinks. Ask again...and again, and again...food arrives, ask again...no drinks, to wash down dry-ass ribs with zero flavor. Done eating. No drinks. Ask again...finally, drinks arrive. Mint julep is sugar water with ZERO booze in it. Bill has to be haggled over regarding items that didn't arrive, yet we're still being charged for.

I've worked in the restaurant industry before. I know what it's like to be in the weeds. That's why you hire a MANAGER who can keep things rolling and help the staff. I expect poor service and warm beer at the Mom & Pop jaozi stand around the corner, NOT from a place that charges premium prices....premium prices for substandard food and drinks. After we leave, we head to Q-Mex, around the corner, where the owner is present, sees to our every need, and has a great time with us. Take a lesson from Q-Mex, fellas, or from Plan B, where they treat you like family...and actually know how to slam down a rack of ribs.
If you're considering Home Plate - don't bother. Out of the way, in Sanlitun (the armpit of Beijing), poor service, low quality food and drinks, not worth the effort to get there. I wish the Beijinger had a "zero star" option...
