I've been living in Beijing for 5 weeks now and have developed cravings for Macaroni and Cheese and an American favorite, Pie!
I googled for days and searched the Beijinger for a place to find a pie (I wasn't very thorough with my search apparently) and came up with Pantry's. I would never pay 26 dollars in the States for a pie but I was desperate!
The pie I wanted was the French Silk (chocolate) but it's more expensive than the Apple of Banana Cream. I haven't had banana cream in years so I thought I'd play it safe with apple. I asked my homestay mother to call in and order the 7 inch pie for me and to ask that it be delivered by 5pm (our dinner time) the next day. Free delivery within the 5th ring because they don't have an actual store? and the pie came on time.
Going great right?
No. The pie's crust was plain and almost waxy tasting. The filling was good but not great. Maybe I'm just accustomed to a load of sugar in all of my desserts but it isn't like a homemade American pie, coming from someone who was born and raised in Texas.

Re: 26 USD for a tiny mediocre pie.
hi,
You should try Peter's Tex Mex.
Their pies are amazing.
Re: 26 USD for a tiny mediocre pie.
If banana cream is what you desire, I recommend SALT's deconstructed banana cream pie. You will not be disappointed. You will get a 3-course dinner for just a tad bit more than what you paid for your mediocre experience. There is a Peter's Tex-Mex right next door, as well

I second that!
Although after Salt, Peter's becomes unnecessary... 8>
